Beaufort, With A Local Resident

Earlier today, I drove to Beaufort, to see the town and meet a friend.  For several years, I've been listening to the BlogTalkRadio host Annie Ubelis, a.k.a. the Radio Chick, on her show called "Southern Sense".  (She also has her own website.)  Today, I got to meet her at a local restaurant in her adopted home town.  In other words, it was one of those times when someone in the blogosphere turns into a real person.  Afterwards, she turned me loose to explore the town.  At Annie's suggestion, I walked to the Beaufort Arsenal, which was originally built in 1799 and is now a museum.  Here's the long side of the arsenal, the wall surrounding its courtyard extending along the street.

Here's part of the arsenal inside the wall.

Downtown Beaufort includes Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, of which this is a section.

The park includes this walkway, right next to the water.  The bridge in the background is U.S. Business 21.

A few blocks west of the Arsenal is this bust of Beaufort native Robert Smalls, who commandeered a Confederate ship and turned it over to the Union during the Civil War, and years later served in the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Robert Smalls bust is next to the Tabernacle Baptist Church.
