Grand Canyon - Guano Point

The second and last place in the Grand Canyon that my tour group visited was Guano Point, about a mile and a half from Eagle Point.  The area includes its own restaurant, the Guano Point Cafe, which served a lunch that was included in our tour package.  We got our food and then had time to wander around.  Here is one view from near the cafe, but this picture wasn't very well focused.  Even so, you can see the Colorado River below and strata of light and dark rock.

I took another shot from a slightly different viewpoint, which I think came out better.

This is the actual Guano Point, which may be reached by a trail leading from the outdoor dining area near the cafe.  Note the metal structure behind and toward the right of the rock formation.

From a viewpoint near the dining area, I took this picture of another section of the canyon.

Although the area is named Guano Point, it has no actual bat[bleep].  The stuff was found in a cave on the other side of the river, and mined from there.  To get it out, a cable tram was built across the river and thus across the canyon.  One end of it was the metal structure seen above, which can be reached by a trail.  Naturally, there were a bunch of visitors checking it out.

Another trail led to the base of the metal frame.

From this area, I could look down and see a tower that would have held the cable.  Could that be the batcave on the other side of the river?

We eventually left the Grand Canyon and the Hualapai Reservation and headed back toward Las Vegas, but we made one more stop, to make a brief dam visit and take some dam pictures at Hoover Dam.  I previously visited the dam in 1990 and 2009, when I could park my respective rental cars and then wander around as I pleased.  Since the dam has for some reason come to include security checkpoints, this would not be possible this time around.  So we checked in and parked, allowing me to take a dam picture, in which you can see how low Lake Mead has gotten.

I took a second shot, showing more of the road (which used to be U.S. 93) and some parking areas.

After this, we went back to Las Vegas and concluded the tour.
