This morning, I left Missouri and headed back eastward, passing through Chester, Illinois. The town was once the home of Elzie Segar, the creator of the cartoon character Popeye. Immediately after I crossed the Mississippi from Missouri to Illinois, I stopped at Segar Memorial Park, which includes this statue of Popeye.
The park also includes this sign, which includes a cartoon of Popeye and the addresses of 12 local churches.
Continuing through Chester, I came across another park, which includes a statue of Wimpy, who will gladly pay you Tuesday if you buy him a hamburger today.
The park also includes a cutout, in front of a gazebo, where you can lend your face to Bluto/Brutus, Alice the Goon, or the Sea Hag.
On the other hand, you can also lend your face to Popeye, Olive Oyl, or Swee'Pea.
