In the Superman comic strips, TV shows and movies, the title character lives in a city called Metropolis. Back here in reality, the Illinois city of Metropolis has embraced its fictional namesake and its resident superhero. His statue stands in Superman Square in the city's downtown.
Across the street from the statue is the Super Museum, which includes another Superman figure who looks like he's about to take flight.
A few blocks northeast of Superman Square is a statue of Lois Lane, reporter for the Metropolis-based newspaper the Daily Planet. The statue is made to resemble actress Noel Neill, who portrayed Lane in the Adventures of Superman TV show during the 1950s. She also made a brief appearance in Superman: The Movie, which was released in 1978, and which starred Christopher Reeve in the title role and Margot Kidder as Lane.
If you wander around Metropolis, you might run into some kryptonite, such as this chunk seen in front of the Americana Hollywood Museum & Giftstore.
The museum has an outdoor area, which includes a railroad caboose.
After seeing the things I wanted to see in Metropolis, I headed to Kentucky and continued eastward to find a place to stop for the night. Since I've been able to post this (and this evening's earlier entry involving Popeye), it means that I was successful in doing so.
