Virginia Beach Boardwalk - Part 2

This afternoon I again set out from my undisclosed location on foot, this time going southward.  I soon came upon this statue of Neptune.  The rocks from which he appears to rise are covered with various sea creatures, while he holds a turtle in one hand.

Here's Neptune from the south side.  He's rather popular with visitors.

I continued southward and came upon a sculpture garden comprising snails and rocks between two resorts.  This section includes one snail sculpture.

Another part of the sculpture garden includes two more scaled-up snails.

I resumed walking and found the statue Norwegian Lady, who has some history behind her.  In 1891, the Norwegian ship Dictator was lost in the ocean off Virginia Beach.  A wooden figurehead from the ship washed ashore and was placed in a vertical position as a memorial to the sailors who lost their lives in the shipwreck.  The figurehead was damaged by Hurricane Barbara in 1953 and then removed.  In 1962, two bronze replacement statues were commissioned, the one seen here and the other placed in Moss, Norway, which was later named Virginia Beach's "sister city".

Behind the Norwegian Lady is the Naval Aviation Monument Park.  Here are a few of the monuments.

These two monuments consist of groups of statues on a respective platform.

This monument portrays a naval aviator coming home to his family.

Another monument was near a mural and a bench.

Further down the boardwalk is a statue of John Wareing, who was a policeman, a war hero, and a fitness guru.

I eventually reached the Virginia Beach Fishing Pier, which includes two gift shops, a restaurant, and an old Volkswagen bus.  In the foreground is a playground.

Here's the shore-facing end of the pier.  I you want to fish, you don't need a license, but it's gonna cost ya, pilgrim, even if you just want to walk along the pier beyond the stuff in the foreground and spectate.

Having reached the fishing pier, I decided that I'd had enough and returned to my undisclosed location.
