Baker is a census-designated place in California located along Interstate 15, about 90 miles south of Las Vegas, Nevada. It has a total population of 735 and is thus not to be confused with the city of Bakersfield. But even with its small size, Baker is not without its distinctions, such as the world's tallest thermometer, seen here from a few hundred feet down Baker Boulevard, the place's main drag.
As you can see, according to the thermometer, the temperature was at least 107 degrees F. Here's a shot from across Baker Boulevard.
Further up Baker Boulevard, I'm not saying that it's aliens, but....
....you might be able to buy beef jerky from some aliens. So after they mutilate cattle, they process the bovines into jerky? I must admit that those aliens sure know how to construct a cool sign, which includes a temperature reading.
On the other hand, some aliens just want to go for a ride.
After seeing Baker, I decided to continue a few more miles down I-15, to what might be the most unusually named road in the U.S.
