Monticello - Part 2

After walking around the grounds of Thomas Jefferson's estate Monticello, I went over to its main house.  Like the White House in Washington, D.C. with its East and West Wings, Monticello has North and South Wings.  This is the south side of the South Wing, which includes exhibits in some of its rooms.  Several visitors were hanging around.

I could also see the south side of the main house, with the east porch to the right.

A bunch of archaeologists were working nearby.

I took a shot of the east side of the main house, which was mainly in shade.  You can see two visitors toward the left.

I walked around the main house and took this shot of its west side, which is what we see on the reverse ("tails") side of a nickel.

This passage leads under the west side of the main house, here looking southward.  A sign on the door says "enter quietly", which I did.  Behind the door, the passage goes past several exhibits and then through another door and finally to the other end of the house.  I think that's another visitor in front of the door.  Or did I photograph a ghost?

Having seen almost everything that I had wanted to see, I walked back to the visitor center, where there is a statue of Jefferson in front of a modern shuttle bus.

There was one last place at Monticello that I wanted to see, which was the burial ground for enslaved people (or slave cemetery for short), near the visitor center parking lot.  Sadly, there were no headstones or other markers indicating the location of any graves.

Finally, I drove back to my temporary undisclosed location.  Not far from my home away from home were these two local residents.  I'd say that they blended in pretty well with the scenery.

That's all for today's report.  See youz soon.
