Today I ventured out from my current undisclosed location and explored a bit of Susquehanna State Park, which is in Maryland between U.S. Route 1 to the north and Interstate 95 to the south. The first place I stopped at was Rock Run Gristmill, which is about 50 feet from the Susquehanna River. The mill includes a wheel and a pipe that brought water from across the road.
I took another shot in which you can see the road passing under the pipe. The white house down the road a bit is the Jersey Toll House.
Across the road and uphill is this spring house, which is on the grounds of the Carter-Archer House.
Also uphill is a basin which when filled, would have sent water into the pipe seen above. You can again see the Jersey Toll House in the background to the right.
Further uphill and on the grounds of the Carter-Archer House is this stone carriage barn.
Back down near the gristmill is a trail which runs along the west side of the Susquehanna and incorporates an old railroad track.
I took a short walk down to the aforementioned Jersey Toll House and got a closer picture.
To the north, the trail which used to be a railroad track goes over an old railroad bridge that spans Deer Creek. On side path leads down to the creek bed, where I got a shot of the creek and the bridge.
Here's the trail on the top of the bridge, where the rails and ties have been removed.
While on the bridge, I got a shot of the Susquehanna.
The road seen above next to the mill and the toll house eventually leads westward along Deer Creek to the Stafford Flint Furnace. You can see the creek in front of and below it.
This concludes today's explorations. Stay tuned for more, and for some regular blogging.
