Hamilton played football at Virginia Tech and was originally recruited as a running back. He played wide receiver in 2002 and 2003, tailback in 2004, and free safety in 2005. He briefly played for the Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins in the NFL before coaching at UVA-Wise and VMI.
