U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May, in a reportedly emotional speech, announced that she will resign, effective on June 7th. Only the second female U.K. prime minister, she called serving in that position "the honour of my life". The Conservative Party (commonly known as the "Tories") will have the task of choosing a new leader, since the prime minister is the leader of the majority party (or governing coalition) within the House of Commons.
