Thursday Things

As the outer bands of Michael appear to have reached my vicinity, here are some things going on:

From the Express, according to a former Greek finance minister, Italy is pushing the E.U. toward "disintegration".  (If so, would this make Brexit moot?  The story comes via Voice Of Europe.)

From the Independent, the U.K. government is accused for "kowtowing" President Trump by dropping their objections to the death penalty for two of the accused ISIS "Beatles".

From the Evening Standard and the "you can't make this up" department, for the first time ever, a robot will appear before the U.K. Parliament.  (Could this be one of the Cybermen?  Better call the Doctor.)

From the Daily Mail, 63 groups in Indonesia pledge loyalty to the leader of ISIS.  (The article cites The Australian, which is behind a paywall.)

From Voice Of Europe, a boy's soccer team in Sweden is sued by the parents of a girl for not letting her play and a migrant allegedly rapes a migration activist in France.  (The first story may be read in Swedish at Nyhetsbyrån.  The second story may be read in French at La Voix Du Nord.)

From Dutch News, Dutch authorities are keeping an eye on at least 160 radical Muslims.  (If you read Dutch, read the story at De Volkskrant.)

From France24, in a follow-up to a story I found yesterday, Saudi Arabia withdraws its bid to join the Francophonie.

From the Greek Reporter, 10.5 million people visited Greece during the first half of this year.  (I've been there twice, but quite a while ago.)

From Rûdaw, all but one of 35 people aboard a boat in the Aegean Sea drown after it capsizes.  (This is another example of one of the many perfectly non-racist reasons to oppose illegal immigration and human smuggling - the dangers to the migrants themselves.)

From Gatestone Institute, "how Palestinians lie to Europeans".

From The Washington Free Beacon, a spokesman for Senate candidate Phil Bredesen (D-TN) calls white male gun owners "the biggest terrorist organization on the planet".  (Since when are white males, even just those who own guns, a single organization?)
