The third and last place I visited today was Deshler, Ohio, known for its diamond railroad crossing. At this crossing, two east-west tracks intersect a single north-south track, with several wyes in place to allow trains to switch between them. Near the diamond is Crossroads Park, of which this is the picnic area. The east-west tracks are behind it.
Here's the diamond, behind which is a storage building used by the railroad.
This building was a depot.
These signs tell you to smile and stay off the tracks. There are some letters and numbers inscribed on the pillar to the right, but I have no idea what they mean.
To the south of the park are a water tower and a silo, with the north-south track and two gas tanks in front of them.
It wasn't too long before a westbound train came through. Although these tracks belong to the CSX, the locomotives were from the BNSF.
I got a shot of this railcar carrying two crates. It looks like some graffiti artists made their presence known.
Before leaving the town, I briefly visited Deshler Village Park, where this old fighter jet was mounted on three poles. The small object appearing to hover above the jet is not a UFO but a bird, as far as I can tell.
With my visit complete, it was time to seek a place to spend the night and plan my eastward return. For today, as a certain cartoon pig used to say, ththththat's all, folks.
