A Play, An Election, And Some Other Things

I regularly read (and often link) articles at National Review, but I found Kyle Smith's review of Jonathan Leaf's play The Fight particularly interesting.  The play is an allegory based on the real-life "bitter acquaintance" (Smith's term) between two prominent second-wave feminists, Betty Friedan and Gloria Steinem.  From NR:
The play's antagonists, Doris (a steely Judith Hawking) and Phyllis (played as a woman very aware of her beauty by Fleur Alys Dobbins) are lightly disguised stand-ins for Friedan and Steinem respectively.
Smith points out that he counts Leaf "as a friend".  He also states that the play starts with Doris recalling her relationship with Phyllis to a grad student, the conversation being set in the early 1990's.  If I had the chance, I would ask Leaf if he had any specific reason for choosing the grad student's name.  To learn her name, you must read the full story.

If you're in Virginia or New Jersey, unless you're disqualified for whatever reason, you should vote for governor tomorrow.  Read more at CNN.  (I had erroneously said "today".  Nothing like forgetting what day it is.)
